Last spring was mostly devoted to the completion and inauguration of the Phaplu Maternity Centre, which had been made unusable by the 2015 earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>In November, we went again to<strong>\u00a0Bahjang district in the West of Nepal<\/strong>. Two years ago, in the same period, we had noticed a strong local demand for orthopaedic\/traumatology treatment. It took three days trekking to cover the 850 km between Kathmandu and Bahjang.<\/p>\n<p>Patients turned up in large numbers from the first day: 210 orthopaedic consultations and 154 ex rays were carried out. 74 patients had surgery and 16 had other types of orthopaedic treatment (infiltrations, plaster casts,\u2026)<\/p>\n<p>Our five days of work were very full and once again the bulk of the cases were children with untreated fractures and therefore limb deformations.<\/p>\n<p>On the way back, we stopped for two days for a surgical camp at Dadeldhura where we undertook 29 interventions \u2026 between two of which we celebrated the birthday of one of our nurses.<\/p>\n<p>After a few days rest in Kathmandu, we left for Bohjpur district in the East of Nepal., two days journey by road. During our four days there, we undertook 40 surgical interventions and 11 other types of treatment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is interesting to note that from year to year, local radio announcements, and the people&#8217;s understanding of these, have considerably improved the efficiency of our camps.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This autumn, we resumed surgical activities in the remote regions of Nepal.
